IT’S BACK!

I was walking by the receptionist’s desk at work and there it was! MY BIBLE!

No one knew the name of the lady who dropped it off, or had any information on where it had been for the last 22 days. (See the blog entitled “(Wo)man Does Not Live on Bread Alone” for the first part of this story.)

I held my bible tightly in my arms as I walked slowly back to my office for a private reunion. As I sat in my chair, I lovingly thumbed through the pages thanking Daddy that it was returned in time for my trip to St. Louis for the Mission America Coalition’s annual gathering.

I had loaned my bible to a young woman who had flown into town to attend the funeral of someone very dear to her. Several people had told me that I was crazy to loan someone MY bible. At the time it seemed as though I was holding a life preserver in my arms while I was watching someone drown. I honestly felt like I had no choice but to give it to her.

Then my mind began to wander. . . oh if these pages could talk! She had a relationship with God. She knew how to hear His voice; but she had been exposed to so many half-truths that she was confused. What pages did the Holy Spirit lead her to in her search for comfort and the answers to her questions? Read the rest of this entry »

THE MOUSE GUEST

There’s a mouse in my house.

I’ve suspected the presence of the little stow-away for over a week.

I’ve been trying to convince everyone else of this reality for just as long, but with little success.

At first I heard the scratching noises in the middle of the night when all was quiet.

But in the morning I got so busy with my morning routine that I neglected to tell anyone.

Then I saw our youngest cat (the crazy little space cadet who wants to play with anything and everything) staring under our refrigerator. A-ha! I’m not the only one who’s hearing things!

When I mention the possibilites of a “mouse guest” to the human element of my household (one husband and three kids) they laugh at me for taking the cat’s response so seriously. He jumps at nothing and chases shadows, so his credibility as a “mouse detector” was brought into question.

This morning I heard it again! I managed to pull the refrigerator out far enough to peek behind it with a flashlight. Sure enough, there were little black traces of evidence. Then I saw it - only for a flash of an instant - dark gray fur and a tail!

Now I had eyewitness testimony, MINE!

The kids had already left for school, and my husband was out in his office getting ready to leave for work. I asked him to help me pull the refrigerator out farther. I got all kinds of helpful advice from him. . . “Set a mouse trap back there.” “Don’t feed the cats for a couple of days. When they get hungry enough they’ll catch it.” . . . but he had forgotten to help me!

The fridge is still only a few inches away from the wall, and I’m feeling a blog coming on! (and not for the reasons you might suspect!)

In November we have MANY significant issues on the ballot. How will God’s adopted children respond?

1) Ignore it, because we’re too busy?

2) Diminish its’ importance because only crazy people are distracted by such things?

3) Give all kinds of advice, and go on with life as usual?

4) Get involved, get everyone you know involved and let His Kingdom come and HIS WILL BE DONE on ‘our turf’ as it is in heaven?

OUR DADDY HAS AN OPINION. . .

Please take the time to pick up a sample ballot and prayerfully consider each candidate and issue.

I challenge each of us to spend part of our bible study time searching for a scripture to support each constitutional amendment, inititated measure and referred law. You might be surprised at what you find. . .

RESCUED!

Sometimes being obedient means taking a “blog-break” when Daddy tells you to.

While studying the word “kingdom” I was taken to the book of Colossians and ran into the most beautiful prayer written by Paul. I was struggling to understand its’ meaning until I found it in the New Living Translation.

We offer this prayer up for all of you. . . Read the rest of this entry »

WHO’S YOUR DADDY?

A friend of mine sent this story to me via e-mail. I’m not sure of its’ author. I’ve edited it a bit to shorten its length.

The story starts with a vacationing seminary professor and his wife eating breakfast in a little restaurant in Gatlinburg, TN. A distinguished looking, white haired man came over to their table and struck up a conversation. After finding out that the professor taught preachers to preach, the old gentleman pulled up a chair and said, “Well I’ve got a really good story for you.”

“See that mountain over there?” (pointing out the restaurant window). “Not far from the base of that mountain, there was a boy born to an unwed mother. He had a hard time growing up, because every place he went, he was always asked the same question.” Read the rest of this entry »

(WO)MAN DOES NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE

I loaned my chain reference bible to a young woman who was grieving over the death of someone very dear to her. She was full of questions and searching for answers, and I knew where the best answers could be found. . . but she needed a bible that could help her search for them topically.

I had someone tell me I was crazy to loan someone MY bible. At that moment in time I felt like someone holding a life preserver in their arms while staring at someone drowning. I honestly felt like I didn’t have a choice. Read the rest of this entry »

DAILY BREAD

Jesus taught His disciples to ask their Heavenly Daddy to give them “daily bread”. (see Matthew 6:9)

I used to think “daily bread” refered to depending on God to provide for our daily physical needs (food, shelter, clothing).

Since I’ve started writing a blog, this portion of The Lord’s Prayer has gained a deeper and richer meaning.

When I first started publishing these blogs I had a “pantry” filled with seven or eight blogs. It was comforting to know I always had something ready to publish every morning.

For the past 24 hours there has been no “fast food” waiting in the “drafts” section of my blog and I have been anxious!

I HAVE BEEN REMINDING DADDY that “I have nothing to share with everyone tomorrow morning. . . you’re the one who’s been telling me what to write. . . I don’t want this to be coming from me!”

DADDY HAS BEEN REMINDING ME of all of the many ways He provided for the physical needs of the Israelites in the desert (see Exodus Chapters 16 and 17). He has also been reminding me of the many ways He has provided for the spiritual and emotional needs of my family in the past. Read the rest of this entry »

LET IT BEGIN WITH ME

There are many people in my life who desperately need a relationship with the one, true, living God. (yep, He’s “My Daddy!”)

They can never experience a relationship with HIM unless they acknowledge that Jesus’ death on the cross is the only cure for the sin that prevents them from being adopted by My Daddy.

It’s taken a long time for me to realize that when it comes to accepting Christ, the only person I have any control over is me.

It’s not my job to make other people’s decisions for them.

It’s like offering someone the cure for their fatal illness. . . there’s only one catch. . . no one can force them to accept it and no one can force them to put it into practice on a daily basis! Read the rest of this entry »

THE FISHING LESSON

This morning Daddy reminds me of a dream I recorded in my journal in August of 2000:

Jesus asks me, “What are you doing?”

I’m trying to fish, but I’m frustrated. I feel so inadequate.

Don’t use a hook. You’ll hurt the very fish you’re trying to catch. And don’t splash around in the brook like a grizzly bear, you’ll only scare away the fish. Watch me, this is the way I want you to fish.”

Suddenly we are out in a boat, gently rocking with the waves, only the sound of the oars and the Lord’s voice speaking softly, patiently. . .

Use a net. Yes, some will slip out of your net - don’t worry. You aren’t the only one fishing. There are other boats nearby who are also fishing.

When you get to the shore, you will need to sort through the fish. You will need to recognize each type of fish. Even among the types of fish, some are more mature that others; you will need to take this into consideration as well.

At times your net will get tangled with weeds and dead branches. It may even tear from the weight of the catch or the debris you encounter. It’s important to take time to care for your net. Allow me to untangle the debris and make the necessary repairs while your net dries in the sun.

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said “and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 6:19

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

There are nights when sleep is impossible.

I had promised both families that I would keep them in my prayers in the days ahead. Daddy is making sure I keep my promises. . .

Words seem to escape me, and yet I know My Daddy sees me as I silently wrap each one in prayer that goes beyond words.

He knows my heart, and He understands my tears.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8:26

What an awesome God. . . He intercedes for me as I pray for the people He brings to mind.

Who is He bringing to your mind right now?

AFTER THE STORM

Daddy has taken me fishing in some pretty rough waters over the past two days.

Two farm families devastated by tornados. . .

I didn’t need to ask who was there when the storm hit. The trauma was etched on their faces.

Oh Daddy, how do I pray for these people? Only you know what they’re feeling. . . only you know what their secret fears and worries are. . . they need power-packed prayer RIGHT NOW!

But he said to me,

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

The Holy Spirit can pray the most beautiful prayers through me when I’m totally dependent on Him. . .

WHY DON’T I PRAY THAT WAY MORE OFTEN?
